Photo Rejuvenation

Say goodbye to pigmentation and redness and hello to collagen with Photo Rejuvenation.

Photorejuvenation is a pulsed light treatment that targets the signs of premature ageing, pigmentation and sun spots on the face, chest and hands. Photo rejuvenation is also great for reducing redness, treating broken capillaries, red veins and minor vascular issues. Did we mention it boosts collagen production too?Say hello to more even, glowing skin with this treatment at Caci.

How does Photo Rejuvenation work?

Photo Rejuvenation uses a pulsed light which safely pulses high-energy light beams through the skin surface, targeting skin pigmentation in the underlying tissue and minor surface blood vessels. The light wavelengths are attracted to the melanin (pigment in the skin) and to oxy-haemoglobin (red blood).

This pulsed light treatment generates heat and stimulates an inflammatory response in the skin, triggering a healing process that results in a reduction of pigment and red blood vessels. Once the pigment has been targeted, it comes to the surface of the skin, which then flakes away, leaving an improved skin texture and complexion.Photo Rejuvenation also encourages the production of collagen in the skin, for a more youthful appearance.

Benefits of Photo Rejuvenation

Reduce the appearance of pigmentation and age spots

Photo rejuvenation is a great treatment for reducing the appearance of pigmentation and age spots. The treatment generates heat and stimulates an inflammatory response in the skin triggering a healing process that results in a reduction of pigment and age spots. Treated pigment then comes to the surface of the skin before flaking away, leaving smooth, clear skin in place of age spots.

Stimulate collagen

Collagen is one of the building blocks of healthy, youthful looking skin and photo rejuvenation helps to stimulate collagen production, rejuvenating the skin, plumping it up and helping with the appearance of fine lines.

Reduce redness

Photo rejuvenation helps to reduce redness as the pulsed light is attracted to the red colour in the blood (oxyhaemoglobin). The light then absorbs into it and turns to heat so it collapses the capillary walls to the point where the little debris gets flushed away with lymphatic drainage and the redness will subside slowly.

Improve skin tone and texture

Photo rejuvenation helps to improve overall skin tone and texture as it encourages the production of collagen.

Photo Rejuvenation for Acne

Photo rejuvenation can very effectively help to reduce hyperpigmentation caused by acne. This treatment targets skin pigmentation in the underlying tissue, such as dark spots that appear when acne has healed. Photo Rejuvenation and other advanced treatments can greatly reduce the appearance of acne scarring.

Photo Rejuvenation for Pigmentation

The pulsed light is attracted to the melanin so it finds that dark spot (pigment) and the light absorbs into it which then turns into heat. That heat draws the pigment up to the surface and breaks it down into little particles. When that pigment reaches the surface, this is what we call the “miloing” effect. The pigment goes darker and can look a little speckled. When that happens, it can take up to 7 - 14 days for that to go away and then it will appear lighter underneath. Anything that gets left underneath is removed by lymphatic drainage. That’s why we recommend the time in between treatments to be approximately 4 weeks for that system to happen.

Photo Rejuvenation for Broken Capillaries

The pulsed light is attracted to the oxyhaemoglobin which is that red colour in the blood. The light then absorbs into it and turns to heat so it collapses the capillary walls to the point where you'll have little debris that gets flushed away with lymphatic drainage. The redness will then subside slowly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is photo rejuvenation?

Photo Rejuvenation is an advanced skin conditioning treatment that uses a pulsed light that is attracted to a chromophore (a tiny substructure that light absorbs into), that is then turned into heat. That heat helps to stimulate collagen production, which helps to rejuvenate skin, plump it up, and reduce the appearance of fine lines, pigmentation and redness.

How much does photo rejuvenation cost?

A casual photo rejuvenation treatment is $500. Customers on a Reformaskin membership can save on every treatment with advanced treatment options from $56 per week on our payment plan. We also offer Afterpay.

What’s the difference between VPL and IPL?

VPL and IPL are both impulse light treatments and used for photo rejuvenation treatments, they are just different machines that use different settings.

What does photo rejuvenation feel like?

Let’s be honest, it’s not the most comfortable treatment. There is certainly a sensation, most people feel a short, sharp blast of heat (we liken it to a hot rubber band flicking the skin), but the light pulses are brief, and can be timed for your level of comfort.

How long does a photo rejuvenation treatment take?

A photo rejuvenation treatment takes between 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on the area being treated.

Is photo rejuvenation suitable for me?

Photo rejuvenation is suitable for those with pigmentary concerns, pigmentation caused by sun damage, broken capillaries or anything redness wise and we can help stimulate collagen production in the skin. We can only treat skin on the Fitzpatrick scale of 1 - 3 (this system defines how much melanin is in one’s skin.)

Photo rejuvenation is not suitable during pregnancy.

During your consultation, our experts will assess your skin and identify if photo rejuvenation is right for you.

When can I expect to see results from photo rejuvenation?

Most Caci customers notice a reduction in redness and pigmentation after their first few treatments and the results continue to improve over a course of treatments. At Caci we recommend having 4-5 treatments every 4-5 weeks to ensure long lasting and real results. On our Reformaskin membership we also prep and support the skin with our skin conditioning treatments and at home skincare to get the best results from your advanced treatments.

What can I expect after a photo rejuvenation treatment?

After your photo rejuvenation treatment, you may experience slight swelling for up to 4-5 days, , particularly if capillaries and red veins have been treated. Redness is fairly common after a photo rejuvenation treatment, and may last for a few minutes, or up to 24 hours depending on how resilient your skin is. Pigmented areas will darken noticeably within a few hours of treatment and small dark spots can form (this means it is working!) and can last from 3 days to 3 weeks, until these spots move to the surface of the skin and flake off.

Post treatment advice

Your skin may be pink or even red post treatment.

You may experience some flakiness. It may feel a little like mild sunburn or windburn. You can apply a cold compress if required.

It is possible for blistering to develop. If this happens do not burst the blister. You must contact your clinic for a review and further care instructions.

Over the next few days you may find dark patches appear on your skin that we refer to as the ‘milo’ effect. Do not pick or scratch these marks, as it may result in scarring. If they occur they will last approximately 7 days.

Apply SPF50+ sunscreen daily. This is critical for the first 7 days.

Avoid rubbing the treatment area, exfoliating products, coarse facecloths; this may cause friction, until the skin has returned to its pre- treatment condition.

Avoid active skin products, such as those containing AHA’s (glycolic, lactic and salicylic acids), high doses of Vitamin C or A (Stieva A), for 48 hrs post treatment.

Avoid anti-inflammatory medication, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, (unless they have been prescribed by your doctor) for 3 days post treatment.

If you have sensitive skin, do not try any new products for 2-3 days post treatment.

Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds or artificial tanning (including self tan) to the treatment area between treatments. This may prevent your next treatment, disrupt your treatment plan and may affect the outcome of your results.

Avoid exercise or activities that may cause excessive sweating for 24-48hrs post treatment.

If required we recommend using mineral makeup only.
